Lecture on October 22, 2026: Forest Environmental Monitoring in Rhineland-Palatinate: The Case of the Rhine Valley and the Palatinate Forest

What is the state of our forests’ soils and ecosystems? What changes can be observed—and what do they mean for sustainable forest management?

Presentation: Thursday, October 22, 2026, at 6:00 p.m., Media:Tor, Maximilianstraße 8
Speaker: Jana Glombitza of the Research Institute for Forest Ecology and Forestry of Rhineland-Palatinate (FAWF)

As part of the event series “DIALOG Wald – Sustainable Forest Development in the Speyer Model,” researcher Jana Glombitza from the FAWF will provide insights into the implementation and evaluation of the third Forest Soil Condition Survey (BZE III).

The BZE III goes beyond traditional soil science questions. In addition to examining soil and nutrient balance, it also considers broader ecosystem-level aspects. As a result, the survey provides important insights into the current state of forests and their development under changing environmental conditions.

The presentation will explain what data is collected as part of BZE III, how it is analyzed, and how the results can contribute to assessing and shaping sustainable forest development—with a focus on the Rhine Valley and the Palatinate Forest.

Irmgard Münch-Weinmann, Head of the Environment Department for the City of Speyer, invites all interested parties to attend the presentation and the discussion that follows.
