About the Lecture
Healthy soils are essential for agricultural production. They sustain nutrient and water cycles, filter and store water. As carbon sinks and greenhouse gas sinks, they play a vital role in climate protection. Furthermore, soils serve as habitats for a vast array of organisms, which in turn help maintain soil functions. Our understanding of the importance of our soils and their diverse ecosystem services has grown significantly in recent years: Soils are, in fact, true superheroes.
However, they are not invulnerable—their superpowers must be protected, nurtured, and sometimes even reignited. Fortunately, there are many ways and innovative approaches to improve soil productivity and functionality and to manage them sustainably.
In this presentation, learn about the current state of our soils, the challenges they face, and how we—as a community of agriculture, research, politics, and society—can prepare them for the future.
Please note that the presentation will be given in German.
